“A Lady in a Machine-Shop” ECR Margaret E. Knight, a genius inventor, never settled for anything less than the best. Working tirelessly day and night trying to help out her family left her with the skills necessary to become one of our generation's most-known historical figures. Knight was never intimidated by the misogyny and challenges she faced, such as her invention being stolen from her. Strong work ethic and dedication to her craft allowed her to persevere through the adversity-filled road to fame, allowing her to establish her name in the history books as ‘Woman Edison”(Aller 2). Knight showed tremendous dedication through the long hours spent perfecting her inventions in the factory. With this in mind, it is easy to understand her dedication, “She completed a wooden model and made thousands of trail bags in the factory” (Aller 2). Never faltering in the face of adversity, Knight’s relentless work ethic allowed her to achieve so much success in the field of engineering. Another reason for Margaret E. Knight’s success and fame is due to her perseverance and strong will. Despite the mountainous challenges Knight experienced along the way, she was able to overcome them and secure a place for her name in the history books. Some obstacles she faced were her problems with patenting, when “a man named Charles F. Annan had just put in a patent for a nearly identical machine.” (Aller 2). She discovered that Annan had been spying on her creation, and he had submitted it to the patent office, claiming it was his. Even with the present misogyny in the world, Knight refused to back down, hiring an attorney and winning the case! She went on to create and patent twenty-two inventions before finally dying on October 12,
