She handled the scene better than I thought she would have, but I did not agree on the decision she made. She decided to “I’ll go to his class, I think, and tell his teacher he was sick this morning. That he’ll take the test tomorrow” The scene should have taken place where it did because if she made a different decision she would have caused more problems than when she said “you better run!” The story felt like it made the plot better because it made the story feel like it could actually happen in real life.

Finally Paulsen can change the mood with his words faster than you can say WOODSONG! I believe if she was as close to her parents as she claimed, they would have recognized the change in their daughter. Aside from the negative aspects of this book it was a suspenseful read. The journal format that the book is written in makes it much more interesting because it is explained in the words of the narrator herself. It allows the readers to have a closer connection to the character and allows us to enter her thoughts. In my opinion this makes the ending much more tragic.
Soto uses repetition and motif to describe how weather can depict the mood of a story and how little things can have great effects on people. Gary Soto includes a motif of weather throughout the poem to illustrate the mood and setting of the poem. Soto begins with “December. Frost cracking,beneath my steps, my breath before me. Her house the one who burned yellow night and day, in any weather” (5-8).
An important point I learned after reading Holler if You Can Hear Me by Gregory Michie is that teachers should care about their students because students will learn more if they know you care and then they will care to learn . Mr. Mitchie believes his students don’t care enough to learn about sexism, but the truth was that they were tired of spending 2 weeks on the same lesson. Mr. Mitchie will then get angry at his class and tell them that if they didn’t care to learn then he wouldn’t make them. In another instant a teacher named Miss. Reilly was tired of her class not listening to her that she threatened to quit, but a student named Samuel wrote her a letter and told her not quit.
In Edith Wharton's famous book Ethan Frome, main character, Ethan Frome’s story is a personal tragedy. His own decisions he makes are his own fault. But what is his tragedy? Well, to a certain understanding, his tragedy is that in the present day, he is always dreary and not as happy as he could have turned out; in other words, one could say that his tragedy is that he is unsuccessful in happiness. Although one may argue that the tragedy wasn’t all Ethans fault, and that the weather of new england caused it, that certainly isn’t true.
Foster explains that almost all readers know that warmer months, most of the time, symbolize rebirth and happiness, while colder represent decay and sadness. This is true of the time frame of The Road, they are in an eternal winter because the disaster released so much ash that no sunlight could reach the earth’s surface. This makes their journey even harder because not they not only have to overcome fear and starvation, but also the cold. Towards the end of their journey, the monotony of their days and the coldness is emphasized to show that the man was getting sicker and closer towards death. McCarthy might have chosen a cold earth to make their trials seem more worse because the man and boy had to look for both food and supplies to keep them safe and warm.

My Reflection of Real Talk for Real Teachers Real Talk for Real Teachers written by Rafe Esquith has been thought provoking as well as entertaining to read. I have learned a great deal from reading this book and I hope to implement a few of his ways in my future classroom. I can relate too many of the stories that have been told in this book because this is real life in a school environment. I would like to break my summary down chapter by chapter.
He used the tomb-like houses and empty streets as a form of symbolism. And repeatedly mentions the frosty air and cold november night in his story. He gets a clear message across when he shows how the world has become cold and hard. Each word or paragraph he uses and writes are there for a reason. Everything he does is intentional and nothing is a small detail you can overlook.
The novel takes place in the fictional town of Starkfield, Massachusetts, in the winter and most likely during the early 1900s, a time better known as the Progressive Era. The Progressive Era ushered in massive change and innovation in areas like education and transportation. However, this change seems to pass Starkfield by, a town of fairly modest means and nothing too exuberant. Due to poor transportation, the residents of Starkfield could become “stuck” and “trapped” during the harsh winter, as well as the rest of the year in this isolated town. The limited opportunities and lack of choice in Starkfield also hold the characters back, particularly Ethan Frome.
