Marilyn Monroe Marylin Monroe was a popular and major actor in the 1950s and ’60s. She was also a major influence in cinema and fashion, causing so many fashion trends. She was also a huge icon and broke Hollywood for the better. Marylin Monroe was born under the name of Norma Jean Baker. She was born in the Los Angeles hospital on June 1, 1926; in her childhood she spent most of it in foster homes; in total she had 12 foster families. She got the last name Baker because her mother wanted her to have her husband's last name, Baker. She has 4 siblings, two biological siblings, and two half-siblings. A few months after her career took off, she got a divorce from her husband in September of 1946. She later got married to Joe DiMaggio. She never knew her father, though she thought of Clark Gable as her father. When she was living with her mother's family and friends, she wasn’t allowed to do many things due to religious reasons: she couldn't go to the movies and other things. She went back to foster homes when she was seven years old. When she was seven, her mother came and got her from foster care and her mother realized that her other daughter Jackie died from Kidney disease; she took it out of Marylin Monroe because now she was the only one living with her mother. She watched her mother break and scream and kick the police when called there and her mother got diagnosed with schizophrenia so she went to the state hospital in Norwalk. When Marilyn turned 19, she left the factory she worked at and started her Hollywood career as a model on August 2, 1945, as a pin-up, where she was mostly featured in advertisements and men’s magazines.
