Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1st, 1926 in Los Angeles ,California. Her mother spent majority of her life in mental institutions. Therefore, Monroe was haunted throughout her adult life by the fear that she could possibly lose her sanity also. As a effect to her mother in institutions she grew up in foster homes and orphanages. At eight years of age she was raped by a non-local who was passing by, in a house where she was at the time staying. She escaped the chaos of her early life by marrying James Dougherty, a twenty-one year old, aircraft plant worker, when she was sixteen years old.
During world war two (1939-45) Monroe worked at the Radioplane company factory in Burbank, California. She began modeling and posing for pinups (A poster showing famous people, designed to be displayed on a wall) at this time.
By 1946 photographs of her were appearing in national magazines. The twentieth century fox signed her, but her career went no where during her first stunt with that studio. One award that she got was the Donatello award in 1958 (UXL Biographies). "Marilyn Monroe." UXL Biographies, UXL, 2011.
