Many of the reliable valid sources that describe Marius and Sulla comes from the writings of Plutarch. He is a biographer and philosopher in his ancient Greek time, who was fortunate enough to experience and describe the downfall of the roman republic and key political figures in roman times. He will be the main source of evidence for these sources. I will also be further questioning the reliability of this source and if there is any case of him being biased towards one or another. Firstly I will discuss the lives of both Marius and Sulla briefly, then I will discuss the main differences between these two against each other and against other key political figures before their time in office. He was born in 43CE and lived for 70 odd years till 120CE. His full name is Lucius Mestrius Plutarchus, he was known mostly known for his works like parallel lives and Moralia. Parallel lives is the ‘lives of the noble Greeks and Romans’. Its works of 23 pairs of biographies covering one Greek and one Roman. His second work, the ‘Moralia’, focused on ‘matters relating to morals and customs. Plutarch formally worked as an ambassador and a magistrate in addition to his work as a priest in the Delphic temple. Plutarch’s first biographical works were on the roman emperors. From Augustus to Vitellus his works on roman politicians and people in power is the basis of how we see and view these leaders and members in society
