Mark Antony and Cleopatra Two minds work better then one ,and when two powerful people unite on one common goal , the outcome can be tremendous. History is full of influential couples that have a strong influence in this generation .Cleopatra and Mark Antony are one of these couples in, but their story is not as glamours as some might think. It is one full of bitter betrayal and a thirst for power. Cleopatra was born part of the Ptolemy dynasty in 69 B.C. in Alexandria, Egypt. Mark Antony was a great general who lead the conquest of Gaul . Meeting Mark Antony would be a great honor for many but Cleopatra saw their encounter as just another opportunity to achieve power both in Egypt and gain Romes confidants in Rome, and for Anthony the support of Rome’s largest and wealthiest client states in his campaign against the might of the Parthians .Cleopatra took advantange of Mark Antony's power requested that her half-sister Arsinoë, be killed to prevent threats to her rule. In the aftermath of the battle, Cleopatra took refuge in the mausoleum she had had built for herself. Antony, informed that Cleopatra was dead, commented suicide by stabbing himself with his sword. Before he died, another messenger arrived, saying Cleopatra still lived. Antony was carried to Cleopatra’s retreat, where he died after bidding her to make her peace with Octavian, But she failed . Rather than to submit to Octavian , Cleopatra committed suicide on August 30, 31 B.C., possibly by means of an asp, a poisonous Egyptian serpent and symbol of divine
