Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835 in Florida Missouri, he was the youngest child. When he was 4 years old they moved to Hannibal Missouri. Twain's dad died leaving the family financially unstable, Mark dropped out of school at the age of 15 to work at his brother's printing company. He later became a successful river pilot where he learned the phrase "mark twain" refers to the river depth at which a boat is safe to navigate, which became his writing name. Twain helped his brother Henry get a job with him in the steamboat where he later died in an accident, which Twain felt responsible for his death. The civil war affected the trade on the Mississippi river which ended Twain's steamboat career. Twain later joined a Confederate military however he only lasted for two weeks before disbanding. Twain later moved west where he started working at mining before becoming a reporter for the Virginia City Nevada Daily Territorial Enterprise. Kate was born February 8, 1851 in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Growing up as a child Kate began her education at Sacred Heart Academy, a Catholic school, where she was taught to think independently, but to be submissive to men. That's why she was focused on sexuality texts. Kate was mainly focused on the topic of feminism; Even though the feminist movements started in the 1960's she was way ahead of her time.
