Mark Twain was born on November 31, 1835, in Florida, Missouri. His real name is Samuel Langhorne Clemens, and he was also known as Mark Twain. He was a major American writer from Missouri. He was a flawless novelist, but also a journalist, lecturer with showing his humor. His writing revealed the gritty to the reader and sometimes uncomfortable reality of 19th-century life in a changing America and also showed race, rules, religion,friendship, or deception as the themes through his works. There was his work which contributed to him to grow as a popular writer. Abroad(1869), Roughing it(1872), The prince and the Pauper(1882), and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer(1876). The town, placed in the Mississippi river, was a splendid place to grow up, but the violence frequently occurred there. For instance, he watched a slave die after a white owner struck him with a piece of iron. In 1847, the remained family had to suffer difficulties due to the abrupt death of John Clemens when Mark Twain was about twelve years old. Twain kept up his schooling to earn money for his family and he found a job as a printer, which paid with a meager ration of food and gave a little opportunity of working as a writer and editor. When he was 21 years old, he fulfilled a dream by learning the art of piloting a boat on the Mississippi, also he got a pilot license in 1859. However, he had no choice but to cease his career because of the outbreak of the Civil War. He joined a volunteer confederate unit called the Marion Rangers, but he retired after just two weeks and went along with thousands of other men to move west. At that time period was the Gold Rush, he prospected for silver and gold like the common people who wanted to be a rich by discovering lots of silver or gold things. Moreover, he determined to escape his family from economic problems, however, he realized that it is an impossibility, so he started to find a new job. That was a reporter for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. He displayed his characteristics of humor and familiarity.
