Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835 in Florida, MO. His real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens. He was the sixth child to John and Jane Clemens. When he was 4, him and his family moved to Hannibal, Missouri. While young, he enjoyed rough play and began to be exposed to the institution of slavery. He received many awards and honors also. In 1847-1880, he was working as a printer’s apprentice and typesetter in Hannibal, MO. In 1859-1860 he worked as a riverboat pilot. In 1860-1862, he was secretary and government worker in Nevada. In 1862, he was a miner. And during the Civil War he fought on the Confederate Army and became second lieutenant. As a writer, Mark Twain also wrote many successful books. These include, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Prince and the Pauper, Life on the Mississippi, and the one he was banned for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer came before Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It was a tale of a love driven boy name Tom. He liked a girl named Becky. He was the trouble-maker and often times tricked his friends into doing his chores. Among his friends was Huck Finn. Huck and Tom, along with their friend Joe Harper, they watched another town member, Injun Joe, murder Dr. Robinson. Then Tom and Huck decided to spy on Joe to find where he buries his gold. Huck was considered a major trouble maker. One day he met a slave by the name of Jim. Once Huck escaped a cabin that his father was keeping him in, he heard about Jim getting sold for eight hundred dollars. This lead Huck to help him escape slavery to the north. They sailed to an island and stayed there a few days. Eventually Jim got a bounty on his head. So him and Huck set for the north. Eventually though, Jim was captured. This made Huck more mature and made him gain the feeling of wanting to help more slaves escape. In fact, Clemens's father was one of three convicted for helping runaway slaves in 1841. Eventually Tom agreed to help Jim escape. But Tom fell badly ill and Jim gave away his freedom to help cure Tom. Jim was captured and chained, but once Tom explained what happened, Jim was freed, paid money, and treated like a
