All choices made for females were made by the parents within the household. A parent’s job was to make sure their daughter was well taken care of by someone who can support them financially; along with their future family. Verona’s traditional views on marriage and raising children to affect Juliet negatively as it limits her future.

Marriage is defined as; a legal union between man and wife, however, there are two ideas of the basis of marriage; First, being a union based on love, and second, a union arranged by the family.
