His drawing are filled with dots, brush strokes and usually flowers. His inspiration for the last 40 years has been from the Cibao Valley.
Referred to as “the best representative of the Mexican sculptural movement at the time” by Diego Rivera, I chose to do my research on Guatemalan painter and sculptor Rafael Yela Günther. I am attracted to his work because long before I knew who he was I saw some of his sculptures personally in Guatemala and I was truly impressed. Naturally my interest to know more about his artwork grew when I learned that Rivera had some influence on him during their time working together in Teotihuacan. Rafael Yela Günther was born on September 18, 1888 in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.

The Speaking the Unspeakable lecture by Laura Gomez was mostly on the topic of immigration, particularly Hispanic immigrants. A point that was brought up in the lecture was the fact that there is discrimination when it comes to the possession of illegal drugs. To put into context, people of color compared to Whites are more likely to be caught with any amount of drugs and arrested for the possession. They are more likely to be caught because they are already targeted by law enforcement due to the color of their skin and law officials tend to be not as lenient with people of color when they do break a law compared to a White individual. This example of discrimination used by Laura Gomez made me think of an example that was present in the reading

One of the area of conflict that rose in the book involves the usage of the English language in relation of the family’s native language, Spanish. I gained some insight from this piece of artwork. I chose to start with this video due to my background knowledge on the Virgin of Guadalupe. However, I obtained so much more knowledge after viewing this. The thing that was most striking to me was when Juan Diego presented his cloak to the bishop, not only did the requested roses fall, but also the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Next, I observed the Sun Stone documentary.
“Passport Photos” by Amitava Kumar is an excerpt combining poetry and photography, and making it into a cultural analysis over immigrant conditions. The author explains complicated situations that immigrants have had to deal with when they step towards the U.S. and one of the main conflicts will be language. This piece has described historical moments, such as mentioning “Alfred Arteaga” and the irony of deportation and printing, cultural critiques, and the reality when it comes to the Hispanic cultures. Kumar reflects his book based on a significant image saying “Caution” in English and “Prohibido” in Spanish. In other words, the sign is telling citizens, “Caution”: be careful by avoiding danger, but then it is telling immigrant’s “Prohibido”,
Drinking is a common way to meet up with past friends and talk with people from your past. Drinking takes responsibility for those drinking. Adults from ages 18-20 should be able to drink because they understand the responsibility it comes with . The age limit for drinking should be lowered because when you turn 18 you can vote and serve your country,it would make the roads safer, also it would help the economy. Countries across the globe have legal drinking ages ranging from 16-18, to no age limit at all.
Tectonics is defined as the science or art of construction, both in relation to use and artistic design. It refers not just to the activity of making the materially requisite construction that answers certain needs but rather to the activity that raises this construction as an art form. It is concerned with the modeling of material to bring the material into presence - from the physical into the meta-physical world (Maulden, 1986). Since tectonics is primarily concerned with the making of architecture in a modern world, its value is seen as being a partial strategy for an architecture rooted in time and place therefore beginning to bring poetry in construction. Tectonics, however, has the capacity to create depth-ness of context resulting in the implicit story being told by the tectonic expression.
