1. When and where the reformation take place?
The Protestant Reformation took place in Saxony, Germany in the 16th century. It was initiated by Martin Luther around the years of 1517-1648. Conflict separated the Christians of Western Europe into Protestants and Catholics. The reformation set in place the beliefs that define the Catholic Church today. In Europe, people like Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Henry VIII challenged the Pope’s authority and investigated the Catholic Church’s ability to define Christian practice.

It ended in division and the establishment of new associations, most importantly Lutheranism, Protestantism, Reformed churches, and Anabaptists. Martin Luther believed the Catholic Church was dishonest because they told people that if they gave the Pope money and said 50 Hail Marys then a loved one would have their sins forgiven and they would have less time in purgatory. Since the bible say's nothing about buying your way out of purgatory, this meant that Martin had proof the church was indeed tricking people. Luther made a list of that and another 94 reasons why they were dishonest and then he nailed it to the Catholic Church door for people to read. People read it and began to follow his rules instead. More and more people joined the movement and became what was called a Protestant. These people became the reformation movement which meant different types of marches, acts and speeches on why it was so corrupt occurred often. His lack of agreement with the Pope led to his split of the Church of England from papal authority.
King Henry wanted an annulment from his wife Catherine of Aragon, who had been previously married to Henry’s brother Arthur. After Henry’s brother had passed away, the Pope allowed Henry to marry Catherine because she had never slept with Arthur.
However, after 17 years of marriage, Catherine could not produce Henry a son to take over the throne. Because of Catherine’s failure to produce Henry a son, he went to Pope Clement the VII to ask for an annulment. Henry believed that his deprivation of a son was a sign that God did not approve of his marriage then quoted the Bible saying “If a man takes his brother’s wife, they will die childless”-Leviticus
