There are two points of analysis for the section I decided to focus on. The first point of focus was the picture heading under the justice system. The picture was a remaking of the famous Selma photo taken during the 1965 protests on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. This picture included many civil right activists as well Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King. It was during this time the original picture, people from all races and ethnicities were uniting to combat the social injustice being advertised as the norm or right way for society- it was also a day where many were beaten, and some were killed. A lot of the interpretation was left up to the audience to decide what they thought the pictures symbolized. Take for instance the first artifact I introduced, the picture of today’s civil right activists and leaders marching together in celebration of the fifty years since the march on Selma. For those who lived during that time, it was iconic to see leaders of todays society, take time out to show they still believe in unity and hope for more change. I believe this image told two different yet similar stories though. The reason I felt the image portrayed “change is only an illusion” is because one would think there would be gratifying changes in effect from the first march but it seems people of color are still fighting the same injustices, now more so in the limelight. I also thought the feeling of helplessness stood out when looking at the history people were being beaten and killed for voicing their opinions. I thought the first picture told a story of how one group of people’s persistence, determination, and faith for a better future fought against a corrupt society and demanded
