Martin Luther King Jr. Assassination By: Kassandra Osuna Professor Thuvanuti, US History, Block E Martin Luther King Jr.’s Assassination Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 and later on died on April 4, 1968. He was born as Michael Luther King Jr. However, he later on changed his name to Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. King originally came from a line of pastors and later on followed suit from the year 1960 until his death. He soon married Coretta Scott on June 8, 1953. He then had two sons and two daughters with her. Mr. King was also known for his famous world wide heard speech “I have a Dream” which was given August 28, 1963. King and other Southern Christian Leadership Conference members were called to Memphis, Tennessee to support a sanitation workers’ strike during spring in the month of April 3, 1968. Later on that night, Mr. King gave a speech at the Mason Temple Church in Memphis. In his speech he, himself foreshadowed his own passing; as shown in one of his famous quotes. “I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. After traveling to various countries Ray moved back to England. Where he then hid, jumping from hotel to hotel. Until authorities caught him, on June 8 at Heathrow Airport. Before all this Ray had been a known career criminal for small robberies and being in and out of jail. As well as being a fugitive from the Missouri State Penitentiary. He was even suspected of being hired to kill Mr. King, due to the fact that he had no record of political hatred. Also due to the fact of the significant resources Ray had been found with during the time between the assassination and his
