The Civil Rights Movement had many leaders and people to impact it. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. impacted it the most, in my opinion. He definitely was the most famous leader of the movement. He did many things to impact the movement, and his words impacted probably the most. Dr. King was a strong and powerful leader, and in the end he helped end the civil rights movement. Dr. King was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent most of his life at 501 Auburn Avenue with his parents, Alberta Williams and Michael Luther King Sr. When he was born, he did not have the name he has now. His name was Michael Luther King Jr. His father changed his name after visiting Europe, and his name is after a church reformer named Martin Luther King. Dr.King also went to a church titled Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was very passionate about God and church. His childhood has many impacts on his future.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. attended Booker T. Washington high school in Atlanta. He graduated in 1944 , and then soon was enrolled in Morehouse college. His mother was also a student at Morehouse college before him. Dr. King considered studying in law or studying medicine, but he chose to get a major in sociology. Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. King did receive many other awards, but the Nobel Peace Prize was his biggest award. Later on in the year, congress passed the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The act ruled out segregation in public areas. King was pleased with that, but he wanted all the violence to stop, so he was not finished. He went and campaigned in Selma, Alabama with SCLC. His last march with SCLC was the Poor People's March to Washington. Before the march happened, King went to Memphis, Tennessee. He was there on strike for black sanitation workers. He was on the terrace of his hotel room, delivering a speech, and was assassinated. He was shot and killed on April 4,
