Martin Luther King Jr., an american leader, once said ¨Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.¨ Our future, depends on the progress we make today. Progress helps determine our lives, and helps transform our societies to what they are currently today. Martin Luther King Jr. explains that human progress is given to you. Progress should be a struggle and your journey to receive progress should be a struggle. The workers of these companies describe this as an earthquake. Like most workers, they expect to work in a business that is structurally built and able to withstand many people inside. They could hear the building breaking up, describing it as a ¨terrifying cracking sound¨. The workers witness people dying in front of their eyes. They could feel the ground shake and move, as they watch the buildings quickly fall down. The people are forced to live in these working conditions, not knowing that one day their building could potentially collapse on them. Identifying them as another person who was killed by the factory that they work in. Sadly, after the second tragedy people began to realize that ¨an industry where the workers are not just exploited and forced to work in an environment of harassment, violence and abuse, but where basic guarantees of safety have been thrown to the wind, where corners have been cut to the extent that a building can collapse on top of thousands of workers¨ (Hammadi and Kelly). Without progression, the workers in Bangladesh will continue to suffering in these poor working conditions. One of the most inspiring parts about the book is when Enjolras gives a speech to the rebels. The rebels are fighting against the government of France, since they are living in poor living conditions and seek justice. Enjolras was the leader of the group, and was the first person to kill an officer. He first was ashamed of his actions, but then realized that ¨ [he] obeyed necessity but necessity is the monster of the world, the name of necessity is Fatality. Now the law of progress is that monsters disappear before angels, and that Fatality vanished before Fraternity… Citizens, there shall be in the future neither darkness nor thunderbolts; neither ferocious ignorance nor blood for blood¨ (Hugo 437). When Enjolras kills the first officer, many people are surprised by his actions and didn´t expected him to do that. Enjolras was afraid of taken one man´s life away from him, but he believes that doing this could benefit the future. He depicts progress as a monster. A monster can seem scary at first but once you face your fear, you are able to progress forward. He also compares Fatality with Fraternity. Fatality forces to be helpless with it comes to your fate.
