Kevin luna English Ms spieler May 28 Tittle On august 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr., delivered a speech to a massive group of civil rights marchers gathered around the Lincoln memorial in Washington DC. In his speech, “I have a dream”, he believed that all men were created equally no matter their , race, sexual orientation, and so on. Martin luther king jr lived in a time where blacks and white were segregated and the black people were discriminated and treated unequally for their race but it wasn't just black people who were treated unequally . Henderson, 21, and Aaron J. McKinney, 22. On october 7, 1998 both men lured Matthew Shepard out of a bar where they were at, saying they were also gay, drove Matthew to a remote area east of Laramie, Wyoming where he was tied to a split-rail fence. Helpless and tied to the fence, the two men severely assaulted with the butt of the pistol. He was then beaten more and the two men left afterwards leaving Matthew tied to the fence in freezing cold temperature for 18 whole hours after a bicyclist past by who initially thought he was a scarecrow. He was then later taken to the hospital where they found out he had severe brainstem damage, which affected his body's ability to regulate his heart rate,body temperature and other vital functions and other severe injuries that made it impossible for doctors to operate. Matthew later died on October 12 at 12:53 a.m. at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado with his family by his side. The two men Russell and Aaron were charged with attempted murder and were expected to face first-degree murder charges that could bring the death penalty. At the end both men were sentenced to two life sentences. Matthew's death caused many people and advocates to fight against inequality against people with different sexual orientation. The LAPD joined in the high-speed chase to take down king which the chase ending at Osborne Street and Foothill Boulevard in Lake View Terrace. Unaware that someone were filming the 4 LAPD officers , they kicked, tasered and beat King, leaving him with crushed bones, shattered teeth, kidney damage and a fractured skull. The attack was captured by George Holliday, who lived nearby and grabbed his new video camera when he was awakened by police sirens. George Holliday then latter delivered the tape to the television station KTLA.
