The Color of Unity Martin Luther King Jr. declared he had a dream 50 years ago. He marched and protested peacefully to remove segregation from our country. He had many ideals that he wanted to implement in America. He wanted desegregation in all aspects of American life, wanted monetary reparations from the U.S. Government, and most importantly, peaceful protest. Through all of these ideals, he successfully desegregated America. Martin Luther King jr’s dream was almost fully realized when we elected a black president, but we still have some ways to go. The Red Scare was very prevalent. People were afraid of communism spreading to America and “corrupting” the country. This fear helped fuel racism. Many people started assuming that people of color were communists because they were different. This only made the hatred of those of color more. This was the height of racism with Jim Crow laws and segregation in every aspect of American life. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. helped fuel the civil rights movement during this time period. He was a reverend who looked and the unadulterated racism during the 60s and realized it needed to be stopped. He wanted to protest, but followed the ideals of Gandhi and protested peacefully. On his march to D.C., He made his historic I Have a Dream speech. This speech liste many of his goals and inspired many of those present. Dr. King spoke out against racism in our country. He disputed segregation in schools, supported economic equality, and many important subjects of the time period. Dr. King spoke out against segregation until his death in 1968, but even after death, he fueled the anti segregation movement. Dr. King had many goals for desegregation. Many of his goals were successfully reach, but he also had many that were not
