In 1968 Dr. King wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, officially founded the Martin Luther King Jr. center for nonviolent social change, which she dedicated to being a living memorial aimed at continuing Dr. King’s work on important social skills around the word. Dr. King had come to Memphis TN in 1968 to support the strike of the city’s black garbage workers, and in a speech on the night before his assassination, he told an audience at mason temple church; like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place; Dr. King was not concerned about that now. I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land.
