Leadership is a trait that is valued throughout the world in all sorts of societies. Individuals who become leaders should embrace a positive image because they are role models to those who need guidance and direction. Additionally, leaders influence others to work together as a team to make a change and overcome difficult obstacles in order to obtain a goal. 1. Martin Luther King is a true leader because he used peaceful protests to get his message across to the American people. He accepted individuals for who they were no matter their background. He believed in the rights of all people, but especially in the rights for African Americans living in America during one of the largest movements called the Civil Rights Movement. His positive and uplifting speeches allowed him to get his point across to the public. Last but not least he showed the world that love and acceptance is the only way this world will achieve world peace and acquire positive change. One of his greatest quotes was, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Furthermore, he was a peaceful protestor who believed that violence and hate would only bring negativity and outrage. There would be a continuing cycle of violence if he did not try to put an end to it. Martin Luther King is a true hero to me because he taught people a valuable lesson in life. He taught people how to be brave and live without fear even in the most hopeless situations. He helped teach people how to love and accept one another no matter what their skin color was. I always think of his quotes and speeches when I see acts of injustice and hope that everybody would think like him. Today we look back at Dr. King’s peaceful marches, speeches and it is a motivation to all of us. It gives us hope for a better future and reminds of how far we have come to live in the land of the free and the home of the great. We as Americans have so many opportunities and it is because of heroes like Martin Luther King who have not only fought for the rights of African Americans but for the equal rights of humanity. Martin Luther King can inspire anyone anywhere to work hard, and work as long as it takes to get the goal accomplished. He has shown us that the path to success is not an easy one. Someone who is holding a leadership role in management positions can take Martin Luther King as a great example of what a role model means. Martin Luther King practiced what he preached and built trust in his people. He also had referent power because he identified with the people and people could agree with his ideas and speeches. He was a sincere person who had knowledge and was able to inform, lead, and motivate people to always stand for what is right. In the Management Book it tells us about the needs for achievement theory which is the desire to do something better or more efficiently, to solve problems, or to master complex tasks. Martin Luther King did not want to achieve power or fame, he just wanted to be an activist to help save all the people who were being treated unequally.
