Dr.Martin Luther king Jr was a Baptist minister and social activist. He led the civil rights movement and he used non violent protests to get the freedom that other blacks and himself deserved. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered this speech in a time of great civil unrest and the increasing of racial tensions. He showed many outstanding qualities ,perseverance,organizational ideas,dignity and respect. He was influenced by the idea of refusing to cooperate with an evil and unequal system.

He is an American Baptist minister, activist, humanitarian, and a leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He influenced the whole of world in just a few minutes in a true sense and he managed to sway not only African Americans but also people from other nations into the right direction of true justice. It was the courageous, high spirited, self assured, and decisive, Martin Luther King Jr. I personally witnessed the scene where King conveyed his message through an interminable yet effective speech which lasted for about seventeen minutes.
Martin Luther King Jr was a upstander because he believed in all people should be treated the same. An upstander is when a person stands up for people than cannot stand up for themselves. He was the second child to a family of three born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929. At the age 15 he was going to college at Morehouse College where he received a degree in sociology.
Born on January 15th, 1929, as Michael Luther King Jr in Atlanta, Alabama (Nobleprize.org). King stated that his living conditions were, “...quite ordinary in terms of social status.” (Carson 2). Raised in a religious, secure, and loving environment, Michael could not remember an argument sprouting from his nuclear family, nor a crime, and went on to define his parents as, “...marvelous…” (Carson 2).

Martin was baptized on May 1936. Then when Martin was 12 his grandmother , Jennie, died of a heart attack. This event was traumatic for him.

He heard that Rosa Parks had sat in the front of the bus where only the whites sit and refused to move, and she got arrested. Once he heard that and saw all of the other things going around how the whites were treated better than the blacks he decided to recite his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Hundreds of thousands of people came to hear his speech in Washington where everyone gathered around the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963.
Mahatma Gandhi once said “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”. This change that was imagined throughout history is finally acted upon with a high tolerance. With the leadership and inspiration of Gandhi, change was easier to achieve, it just took a leader that could show people the right way to make it happen. If there was no change then there would be no equality and civil rights. Although he faced harsh times and even death, Minister Martin Luther King Jr. was and affective dissenter because he was able to act with nonviolent protests and speeches that would motivate others to join the great fight to end social segregation.

No single man or woman has done more for the rights of African Americans in the United States of America than Martin Luther King Jr. did in his thirty-nine years on this planet. Martin Luther King Jr. is an iconic figure in American history for his role in the march on Washington, Montgomery bus boycott, in the founding of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and for being a recipient of the Noble Peace Prize. In addition to this, he accomplished one thing that very few people, who have walked this earth, have the privilege of having accomplished this being that he is one of the few human beings that can be known solely by his initials of his name; MLK.

Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK), famous civil rights activist, was a large part of getting African Americans rights equal to the rights whites had, something most African Americans could only dream of. King had a goal of getting equal rights, he planned all of his speeches, marches, protests and he continued going after this dream despite the discouragement he received. Some other African Americans wanted to have those rights, but were too scared of the obstacles to try and achieve this.
