In order to achieve true freedom one must discover that you can break unjust laws through peaceful protest. In “Letter from Birmingham Jail” by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and “The Speech at The March Washington” by Josephine Baker each article passionately argues about the disadvantages of the black community, the equality and power of education. We must learn to act with patients and not guns we must protect are self’s with a pen and paper not violence. Dr. King once4 said “Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon. It is unique in history which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it.
He develops his argument very good because he manages to connect with the audience. He shows a lot of emotion and evidence when he says a "white person killed Martin Luther king." He tells everyone that we should work together and that they should be fighting against each others side because that is what Martin was fighting for that they should stop being racist and stop treating dark skin people like they do not belong there. He also says that Martin "dedicated his life to love and justice between fellow human beings. In paragraph 2 he says "I have some very sad news" and it shows his emotion toward the assassination not only because he was fighting for something good but also because that was his brother.
To change the world, one must use their words to give the sense that the change is for the better. Speeches by the leaders that influence today’s society and those who came before have been able to cause emotions in the people who listen or read them. To be able to make people feel things with your words is a skill necessary for those who want to change the world. In 1963 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. protested the racial segregation in Birmingham and got arrested. While he was in jail he read a newspaper and 8 white clergymen stated their opinion of him. That inspired his Letter From Birmingham Jail. After he got out he continued to protest and he wrote his I Have a Dream Speech. He spoke in front of about 10,000 people in Washington DC.
Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most influential leaders of his time and played a crucial role in the African-American Civil Rights movement. Luther was a charismatic leader who took a firm stand against the oppressive and racist regime of the United States (US), devoting much of his life towards uniting the segregated African-American community of the US. His efforts to consolidate and harmonise the US into one country for all is reflected in many of his writings and speeches spanning his career. As a leader of his people, King took the stand to take radical measures to overcome the false promises of the sovereign government that had been addressing the issues of racial segregation through unimplemented transparent laws that did nothing to change the grim realities of the society. Hence, King’s works always had the recurring theme of the unity and strength of combined willpower.
In Martin Luther King Jr.’s Nobel Peace Prize speech, he continued to help the audience see the importance of a non-violent approach to fighting against segregation and for equality. Martin shows us this by using allusion and symbolism to further prove his points. When using allusion, King quotes, “And the lion and the lamb shall lie down together…” from the Bible. By using this quote, Luther can be inferencing many things. For example, the lamb is seen to coward down to the lion seeing as the lion at the top of the food chain, he can be comparing the oppressed to the lamb and the oppressor to the lion because it’s all the time that the person being oppressed stays quiet and takes it all in.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. developed his argument through his speech. He has set an speech out to everyone, so everyone can be /or will be treated equally, fairly. Martin Luther King to contribute a great deal to the success of the civil rights movement. He wanted his idea to come true, so he did everything he could do for it to happen. Good morning, today I am in the company of two of the USA’s most prominent voices against racial discrimination and segregation, Martin Luther King and Malcolm Little, known to many of you as Malcolm X. My first question: what gave you the willpower to fight against something so openly as opposed to many who simply accepted it. MLK: Since I was a child, I’ve experienced segregation and it just never seemed right that people are discriminated against due to the colour of their skin. The overall message in the speech is that all men and women are created equal although not thought like that at the time in America,Martin Luther King thought it should be like this in the future and throughout America. The speech was important in several ways. Such as where the speech was given at the “shadow we stand today” which is where the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Third, the speech brought Martin Luther King’s speech to become famous nationwide (and worldwide) on radios, newspapers etc.
Language is the most powerful tool of communication in this world, with language we are able to create change. For instance Martin Luther King Jr is a man who created peace against racial oppression with he delivered his speech because of it he received a Nobel Prize. In his “I have a dream” speech, his words were inspirational when he spoke about equality. He said, “ Now is the time to make real promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.”

Today, January 15, 2018 is a day that opened my eyes and made me realized how the love of an individual can overcome any obstacle. What mainly caught my attention today was how everyone made the effort to march early in the morning. The fact that it was freezing cold and people still showed up, shows the sacrifice they are willing to do to honor Martin Luther King Jr. for what he did. Martin Luther King Jr. is a well-known civil rights leader who stood up for his belief in a non-violent protest which helped set the tone of the movement. I have never participated in the Martin Luther King’s marching parade until today and I am glad I was able to join.
