Martin Van Buren Martin Van Buren was the eighth resident of the United States government. He was the first president to be born as an official resident of the United States not as a British subject. Martin did not do anything that was of much importance as his four year presidency. People often called him as his popular nickname as “Martin Van Ruin”. Martin ran in the Democratic party he even went to help form a new Democratic party. People often blame him for the depression. Martin Van Buren helped shape the way for what we call America today. Martin was the eighth president of the United States and he ran in office for four years under the democratic party. Martin first started off working in a tavern at youth to help provide for his family he didn't come from a rich family and he had to work for everything that he had. Martin also had six siblings in his family and they struggled during these times to feed the family. Martin’s parents were Dutch and came from dutch descent. Martin had a success when setting up a system of bonds for the national debt, his party was so split up that in 1837 his proposal for an independent treasury system only passed in 1840. This law gave Treasury control of all federal funds. In a bold leap forward Martin tried to reverse Jackson’s policies and looked for the peace at home, as well as everywhere. In 1837 Martin denied Texas formal request to join the United States. This act angered many pro-slavery leaders who thought he did not want to admit texas over as a slave stater per the Missouri
