Did you know that MARVEL comics has been publishing comic books for 79 years ? The company has come a long way since MARVEL started in 1939, but how did they get this far and will MARVEL be continuing to grow. MARVEL comics has gone through many different CEOs since 1939. How ever MARVEL had to start somewhere, it also had to change, and has to grow. It all started back in 1939 by publisher Martin Goodman, who started the company called Timely Comics. Timely Comics first comic book was Marvel Comics no. 1 featuring several characters such as the Human Torch and the Sub-Mariner. In March of 1941 Timely Magazine started a comic book series known as Captain America Comics. Stan Lee joined the company when he was 17. He was the editor for a …show more content…

In 1961 Marvel Comics came up with The Fantastic Four. Later on Stan Lee thought up The Incredible Hulk and The X-Men due to their rivalry with DC Comics. In 1963 the first Avengers comic was published featuring Iron Man, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk. The Guardians of the Galaxy first appeared in Marvel Super Heros #18. The Guardians of the Galaxy eventually got their own comic book series in 1969 by the title of Guardians of the Galaxy. MARVEL became one of the most popular comic book publishers in the 80s and 90s. In 1986 a company known as New World Pictures bought Marvel Comics. Ron Perelman got Marvel in 1989 and MARVEL was forced into bankruptcy. Stan Lee went on to created Stan Lee Media and when Stan Lee Media went bankrupt Stan Lee decided to create POW!, but Stan Lee never left Marvel. In 1996 MARVEL went bankrupt again due to people not buying as many comic books. MARVEL eventually got out of bankruptcy. In 1998 MARVEL emerged from bankruptcy and started to focus on other cinematics instead of comic books, but they would still publish comic books. A new wave of writers came to Marvel Comics during the 1990s and 2000s. MARVEL sold the rights to Spider-Man and all characters associated with Spider-Man in 1999. Eventually Constantin Studios would purchase the rights to the Fantastic Four and all the characters associated with the series. 20th Century Fox would end up purchasing the rights to the X-Men and all other characters associated with the
