Marvel Thor differs from Norse Thor because in Marvel comics Thor is more of a superhero that everyone loves, while in Norse mythology Thor is just a God, who isn't considered a hero. Thor was the God of thunder in Norse mythology, he was known for strength, bravery, and his magical hammer.
Thor is a God in Norse mythology who is recognized with thunder, lighting, storms, and strength. Thor is often viewed as a powerful, muscular man, with a red beard and a hammer which he uses to fight and control the weather. Thor in the Marvel universe is recognized as a superhero based off the God Thor from Norse mythology. He is a member of the Avengers and has appeared in many Marvel movies. In an article it goes over the elements of Norse mythology and states the role each God plays in the Norse mythological world "Norse mythology is filled with heroic beings, one of those being Thor, but Thor is not considered a hero to the Norsemen" (Wickerham). Though he does heroic things, is often just depicted as a powerful warrior and protector, but also as a flawed and sometimes reckless hero "Generally good natured Thor had a hot temper, and his anger was dreadful to behold"(Wickersham). Thor was a hard fighter but sometimes he got carried away in his battles and destroyed things of the Norsemen, and that is why they don't call him a hero. No one wanted to see him get angry, he was a God you did not want to upset, his enemy's learned this the hard way. Marvel Thor is a superhero with a hammer who fights villains. In Norse mythology Thor has to fight tons of creatures, his worst enemy being the giants. In this quote Thor has to fight for his legacy his father left and battle the serpent "Fenrir will kill Odin, while Thor will perish in the process of slaying the serpent Jormungand"(Wichersham). Compared with superhero Thor, they both have to fight very difficult battles and both have made their share of enemies "He was a fierce enemy of the frost giants, the foes of the Norse gods"(Wickersham).
