Mary Maloney in the story, Lamb of Slaughter by Roald Dahl, is the wife of Patrick Maloney. They are a lovely couple that enjoy each other. Patrick Maloney is a hardworking policemen, and he has been for a very long time. As the story starts Mary Maloney was waiting for her husband to come home after a day of work. The story states she is without anxiety and curiously peaceful. He arrives, she kisses him as he enters with excites him, she also grabs his coat for him and hangs it up. She knew herself that her husband was not gonna speak much before he was done with his first drink. Patrick was tired as he stated in the story “i’m thoroughly exhausted.” ( 1 )He wanted to do stuff for his own self, such as fixing him another drink. Mary walked up to her husband standing with his back to her and whacked him hard on the head with a lamb leg she had chosen to fix for supper. Here she was in denial, shock, disbelief, and anger as she reacted to the news he had shared with her. After staring at him for a mintue she knocks him to the floor and hearing the crashing and overturning furniture , she came out of these feelings slowly to feelings of coldness and surprise. Mary saw what she had done, while her feelings climaxed. The story then describes her as clear-minded, she seems focused, still frightened, panicking, moving through the motions of keeping the evening “normal” in hopes to still make all this never happen. She rehearsed herself in the mirror because she did not want to mess anything up and not act normal when she was getting questioned. She knew that the policemen would ask her questions along with the detectives, she also knew she would have to shower emotions and act some certain stuff
