Historically, women have been discriminated in many fields—art, science, and politics. People believed that women had no talent and they all needed to be housewives without doing anything special outside of the house. Even though women have been isolated from doing active roles in history, British female writers showed their abilities as women and gave huge impact on the history. There are three exemplary female authors in Britain, Jane Austen, Mary Shelly and George Eliot, who changed the history.
Jane Austen was raised under the respected parents who emphasized the necessity of education(Anderson). She wrote more than 14 books in her lifetime, including Mansfield Park, Pride and Prejudice, and Emma which represent her thoughts of female. …show more content…

Shelly was influenced by radical ideas from her parents , Mary Wollstonecraft, author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, and William Godwin who advocated anarchism(Johnstone). Frankenstein is an evidence of the effects of Wollstonecraft and Godwin that depicts her radical thoughts. The ruin of Victor Frankenstein, who creates Creature, shows the rebellion towards the patriarchy that resists women’s expression and compelling of childbirth to women(Fiona). Thomas Hardy and D. H. Lawrence were inspired by Eliot as F. R. Leavis traced the tradition of British literature and declared the order of tradition, of literature(Sewlall).
