Mary Wollstonecraft was an English writer, philosopher and advocate of women’s rights. Mary was born into a large middle classed family, her father, John Edward Wollstonecraft handled the very little money they had poorly which led to a high financial strain on the family, because of the financial strain Mary wasn’t able to have a good education, this was one of the many adversities Ms Wollstonecraft faced. Mary’s father, John, also had an alcohol addiction, when Mr Wollstonecraft would drink, he would become violent, Mary had to act as the protector of her mother as well as her younger siblings of whom she had bad relations with.

Mary’s courage to fight for the rights of all women reminds me that standing up for my rights as a woman and as a human isn’t as scary as it can seem. That when there is social injustice something can be done about it. That although I am a woman I shouldn’t allow myself to be viewed purely as a sexual figure to society or as someone to cook and clean. That being a woman is a beautiful thing and we too are just as good as men, that we are all equal yet different and that I do have power over myself, I don’t have to conform to society and its patterns. In regards to the future, in University or wherever my path leads, I know that I should not get caught up on sexism or inequality, if need be I can fight for my rights, and when I get married and have a family I do not have to worry about the role I have to play, I can be both a mother and a financial contributor to the family. Also, that despite the obstacles im going to face and despite my past, I too can accomplish great things and make a
