The taste of cold coffee usually made Mason cringe, but today he didn’t even notice as the cool liquid passed his lips. He was deep in thought and overflowing with worry. Finally he was brought to his senses by the clatter of a far off waitress dropping a stack of plates. He looked around the familiar diner. It was almost empty, except for him and a group of 3 older gentlemen, who looked as if they had been coming here since the moon first appeared in the sky. A few waitresses wandered around pretending to be busy. Janet wiped off the firm wooden counter, while Barb was sweeping up the chunks of broken glass off the chipped tile floor.
