Master Career Goals

I wish to pursue a Master’s Degree in Applied Behavioral Science for the sole purpose of wanting to fulfill my desires of bettering our world. Earning a Master’s in Criminal Justice will allow me to further my passion for the law and crime prevention by providing me with perspectives on human behavior and analytical skills that will aid me in my future career. Acquiring a Master’s degree will assist me when it is time to apply for federal employment, which is my long-term career goal. For a long-term career I intend to work as an Intelligence Analyst for the CIA or as a Special Agent for the FBI. In both my professional and personal life I want to be able to help as many people as possible and help create a safer world for this and future generations. Having the opportunity to assist in creating a more secure world is very exciting in and of itself, but actually being able to make a difference is what I strive for. The ultimate goal, professionally and personally, for me is to protect others. An advanced degree would help open the door to greater opportunities for me to help prevent tragedies from occurring. Human trafficking, sex crimes, war crimes, and the media’s effect on crime are all areas I am predominantly interested in researching. Academics have greatly influenced my research interests and have provided me with the some in depth knowledge of human trafficking, sex crimes and war crimes. These areas interest me so greatly that I desire to learn even more about them. As a senior I am currently conducting research on human trafficking as part of my senior project. I am analyzing media’s portrayal of human trafficking victims. This research has caused me to see the discrepancy between real victims and mainstream media’s version of victims. During this project I have looked into the causes of human trafficking, the different reasons people are trafficked, the race, gender, age and locations and destinations of the people being trafficked. If able to further research this topic in graduate school I would look into offender motivations and the dynamics of traffickers, so I can fully understand this offense from both perspectives. I would also be very taken with the idea of scrutinizing large sports events such as the World Cup and the Olympics to see how the market for human trafficking swells due to them. Another research area of great significance, to me, is sex crimes. I was recently exposed to sex crimes in a Criminal Profiling class I was able to take last semester. This class, shocking at times,
