On a hot, beautiful summer day inside of Fletcher Hall, I calmly sat across from my counselor explaining my current plan of business courses at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. Mrs. Hall would explain to me in detail about the great programs that were offered here. She would talk about how the marketing and accounting program would be the best fit for me and how I would find no program better. She seemed to take great pride in these programs. I assumed it was because she had a degree in marketing and accounting from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. As I sat there listening to her, I thought to a book I had read before this meeting to decide the scope of study in the school of business. This particular book was Master of Big Board: The Life, Times, and Businesses of Jack C. Massey. In that meeting all I could think about was how I wanted to work for hard working men, like Jack Massey. His character and his work ethic reminded me a lot of my own and of my families. I currently work for HCA, in a position that offers me a great deal of interaction and influence on key decision makers within the company. My role currently is in Decision Support Services here at HCA. In this role, I interact with administrative leads at hospitals, such as CEO’s, CFO’s, and COO’s, to present them with data driven solutions or answers to what questions they might have or what strategic initiative they’re undertaking at that time, with the goal of affecting patient care for the better. Either by some sort of financial impact or process improvement, I know I am helping the nurses, doctors, and other caregivers who greatly drive the patient care
