But to many others, it is the creepiest invention to date, especially for elementary-school-aged children. In fact, many people are trying to get Mattel to retract the release of this product, not only because of privacy issues for the children, but to keep Mattel’s reputation as an honored brand. Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood has even posted a petition on their website to have the product abandoned before it reaches store shelves. I agree with the later opinion. I would talk for the barbies, and bring them to life in my own imaginary world. Nowadays, I see kids with iPhones and iPads, and personally can’t stand it because of how dependent young kids are on technology. In the past, you could give a Barbie to a little girl, and she would be amused for days on end, with the very same, simple doll. Now, you give an iPad to a little girl, and after 30 minutes, she’ll be bored, and crying for a new app to play on. As generations’ come and go, the new ones are more and more dependent on technology, which has its pros and cons. Technology brings forth loads of innovation, and knowledge, but also disconnects people from their world, and tends to make people lazier. This doll is just one of many inventions that will eventually take the market, and take away the sense of imagination that so many simple toys have to
