Maturity is difficult to achieve, and even harder to display. Sir Gawain, the main character In the novel “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” accepts a life-threatening challenge. This challenge was offered by an interesting, green, strangler who called himself the Green Knight. The challenge was intended for King Arthor, however, his nephew Sir Gawain who was a trusted night steps forward in his place. The challenge was to Strike the Green Knight with an axe, and after a year passes he would receive a swing from the Green Knight. After Sir Gawain sliced the Green Knight’s head off, the knight picked up his detached head and tells Gawain to meet him at the Green Chapel, to accept his fate. throughout the poem, Sir Gawain conquers many tests and demonstrations his courage, loyalty, and honesty. Sir Gawain is known for his trait of courage. However, in ever hero some fear abides. He proves his courage by confronting the Green Knight and accepting his challenge. It seems to be an act of pride, but through Gawain’s prospective it was an act of kindness towards King Arthor. Gawain was not trustworthy in every aspect; however, perfection should not be expected. The existence of a perfect mortal man is impossible; with that mindset it makes Gawain girdle incident forgivable. The only reason for his deceit regarding the girdle was because of his plans to stay faithful and keep his promise to the Green Knight. When the time comes for Gawain to accept the blade of the Green Knight, he flinched. By modern day standards, that’s a natural uncontrollable action. But for a medieval hero it was a sign of fear. This is another reminder that even actions as courageous, modest, honest, and loyal as Gawain, are achievable by any
