Anne Frank’s Maturity In “The Diary of Anne Frank,” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett shows a young girl named Anne Frank who shows significant maturity in Act One. In Act One, Anne was faced with many challenges in the secret Annex as she lived there. In the beginning, she was immature and wasn’t really taking her situation seriously and was just playing around a lot. As the Act progresses, she begins to understand how bad the war is and how bad her situation is. Overall, by the end of the Act the reader can see how she has improved into a mature young woman.

The reader can see this by when Mr. Dussel comes to hide with the people in hiding, Anne steps up and says that he can live with her, and even walks Mr. Dussel to the room they are going to live in together. As the war begins to get worse, the reader can see how Anne reacts to the air strikes and the Germans taking Jews away from their homes. The way Anne is reacting to her situation is showing her growing maturity. Another way Anne shows her maturity in Scene Four is when Anne makes gifts for everyone in the Secret Annex for Hanukkah. Even though she fought with a lot with everyone in the Secret Annex she still made them presents. The text states, “Mrs. Frank. [Sitting down] We are all here, alive. That is present enough. Anne. No, it isn’t. I’ve got something . . . [She rushes into her room, hurriedly puts on a little hat improvised from the lamp shade, grabs a satchel bulging with parcels and comes running back.] Mrs. Frank. What is it? Anne. Presents!” (Goodrich & Hackett 738-739). This proves that even though she fought with the people here she still made everyone presents for Hanukkah, which shows her growing maturity.
