In the story when He reached down to Freak and let him see the firework, Max does states “‘I pick him up and I’m amazed” “There are so many people crowded around, all he can see are feet and knees, and people are lifting their little kids up to see the fireworks explode like hot pink flowers in the sky, and so I just sort of reach down without thinking and pick up Freak and set him on my shoulders” (32)(cite page number where quote occurs). This shows that Max’s just reach down and pick Freak up to see the amazing firework. In the story when Freak is going to save Max from his father, Freak does states “‘I’m warning you,” “he says in that fierce bold way he has. He’s got a squirt gun, one of those big blasters models that holds about a gallon of water.Killer Kane is looking at me, he’s looking at Loretta all crumpled and meaning, he’s looking at Freak” This also shows that Freak is saving his friend from his father.
