Max Messmer, chairman and chief executive officer of Robert Half International Inc., wrote in his article “Today's employers want more than just good accountants. They seek accountants who exhibit the desire and ability to interact with others in their department, as well as with individuals from different areas in the firm. As a result, strong interpersonal skills have become the new essential to career success” (Messmer, 2001). However, many individuals still underestimate the importance of social skills in a workplace and focus mostly on the technical aspects that employee should possess in the accounting profession. With that being said, it is imperative for accounting students to learn that knowledge is not the main qualifier to get you the job you desire or promotion you have been seeking for so long.
