These websites aim to educate both the public and health practitioners. The Mayo Clinic website informs the public, particularly those people who have been diagnosed with the disease or a family member who is interested to learn and to understand more about their love ones’ condition. Mayo Clinic’s general purpose is to inform and enlighten the general public about the manifestation of CKD. Moreover, its goal is to influence the attitude and behavior of its readers when dealing with this chronic illness. The audience who are most likely interested to know more about CKD could be parents, people with family history CKD, and individuals from twenty-five to sixty year olds. The use of straight forward and non-technical language is a critical approach for the Mayo Clinic readers as they seek out information that supports their attitudes, beliefs, and decisions. It is a smart approach for Mayo Clinic to not use jargons on its articles of which certainly prevent a meaningful communication and most likely intimidate the reader who are not familiar with the medical terminologies. Whereas, in the Nursing Center article, its target audience consists largely of medical professionals that are familiar with medical terminologies such as Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), albuminuria, urine-albumin-creatinine ration (UACR), ACE inhibitors, Renin-angiotensin, and jargon. Short and concise sentences were used so that the general public can read and understand. When providing specific information, short sentences are beneficial especially for non-medical audience. The information in the Mayo Clinic website has a bullet-style presentation and each paragraph contains only 3-4 sentences. On the other hand, the Nursing Center’s target readers are health care professionals, thus, the use of complex medical terminologies is acceptable. Its article also contains paragraphs with long sentences designed for technical readers. The writing style of the Nursing Center article demonstrates to the readers that the writer is knowledgeable and thoroughly familiar with the topic. It is expected that the more explanations, examples, and evidence-based practice presented, the more the Nursing Center’s readers will be influenced with the competency of the writer in the article. As a result, audience of the articles, will likely participate in the evidence-based research study that the writer is
