How much of a hero would you consider someone who falls into his own death trap? If you're anything like me, I consider Thomas, the main character from The Maze Runner by James Dashner, to be the hero and ultimately the one who saves humanity as they know it. Thomas starts off as any other teenage boy living in the Glade, but as we analyze his character we start to unfold clues about him that go deeper than the surface. Along with his trainer, Minho, and his good friends Alby, Chuck, and Newt, Thomas is able to conquer the maze and make it into yet another one of his genius schemes. Although facing many challenges, Thomas is able to prove himself showing characteristics including bravery, intelligence, and much more.
Thomas shows undeniable bravery when he not only jumps into the maze to help his leader, but takes it upon himself to prevent Alby from dying by the metal talons of a griever. His good friend, Newt, said “No one ever survives a night in the maze”, but when Glade leader Alby was suffering from a griever sting in the maze, Thomas didn’t think twice about not saving him. This shows indisputable bravery for someone who just arrived in the maze 24 hours prior, and I believe that Thomas perfectly displays his dauntlessness throughout the entire movie. Thomas

It’s been three years in the maze, and the other gladers haven’t figured out that the maze has been sending them encrypted messages on how to open it the whole time they’ve lived in the Glade. This is true until Thomas enters and undergoes a ruthless griever sting to recover his memories.
