The Red Scare was a time period that is suggested to have start in the late 1940s, and lasted through most of the 1950s. In the late forties, tension between Soviet Union and The United States began to grow and intensify. With the threat of nuclear bombs and communism, the people of the United States started to grow wearier of possibility of a takeover by the Soviet Union. People lived in fear, the fear was on brought from the threat of communism, but also the fear that the United State government pushed upon them as well. Not only fear of the people of the United State, but also certain events and political figures during the time period help pushed the Red Scare to be prolonged.

He was a just like many politicians, and known for being a disruptive politician from the Midwest. McCarthy was known for him conservative, anti- Communist beliefs. Just a few years after the cold war had begun, McCarthy started to become more known to many people in the United States. He gained his fame with a speak that was given in West Virginia, though he was saying the same things as other politicians he was able to make his accusations more firm and ousted many people. “McCarthy was a gifted demagogue whose wildly irresponsible charges of communism brought him the publicity he craved.” McCarthy was someone who would say what people wanted to hear and knew how to get people’s attentions. He caught people’s attention by naming names, though the information was incorrect. For more McCarthy exploiting people regardless is if it was legit or not did not matter to him. He was good at scaring people of communism even more than they already were. He is a large reason the red scare was so prolonged. He made people more scared of communism.
