“54% of medical practitioners support euthanasia and 86% of the public support euthanasia when the patient is terminally ill” (Seth np). However not all euthanasia patients are terminally ill. Some people use euthanasia for illnesses like depression. In the novel Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, Will is a quadriplegic who wants to end his life because he is not happy anymore. Euthanasia should only be used for people who are terminally ill with something that is going to kill them in time and there is nothing to stop it. Euthanasia has lots of effects on everyone around the person who decides to use it. Not only does it affect the patient's life, but it also affects the lives of everyone around them. For example in the novel Me Before You Will’s decision to end his life also had a major affect on Louisa’s life. When Louisa was going to see Will it said, “I wasn’t up to this. I didn’t want to have to watch Will die. With an audible groan, I scrambled up to be sick again” (Moyes 324). Lou had to go through so much pain just …show more content…
They may not be able to do everything they once could, but they can still do most of it. Like in the book Me Before You, Lou was trying to plan a trip for Will. She told Nathan, Will’s nurse, that, “There was swimming with dolphins, and scuba diving with supporters. There were floating chairs that would enable him to go fishing, and adapted quad bikes that would allow him to off-road” (Moyes 276). Will was still able to go out and have fun. He could do activities that anyone could do. There was nothing there to stop him. In the article “Activites for Wheelchair Bound People” it said, “Requiring a wheelchair does not mean you are confined to a sedentary, inactive lifestyle” (Ireland np). This shows that because you are in a wheelchair that it doesn’t mean you can’t do anything. Quadriplegics are still able to go out and live an active lifestyle no matter
