Proposal: Meals by Mom is a meal delivery service targeted toward college students who do not have the time or energy to cook on their own. Our company creates unique monthly meal plans that guarantee a wide range of nutrients so students can maintain a healthy and balanced diet. We also offer special monthly meal plans that provide food for vegetarians and those who have common food allergies, for example, peanuts and gluten. Our distribution service will deliver the home cooked meals to students around dinner time, giving them the option to select a 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm delivery time. It is important to create meals with students in mind so they will enjoy the taste of their homemade dinners. Research has shown that Italian, Mexican and Asian cuisines are increasingly popular among young adults (“Marketing to College Students” 2011). College students still enjoy contemporary American food, but studies show they are willing to try ethnic cuisines. Another food category of growing popularity is Mediterranean food because of its association with health and wellness. The foods in the Mediterranean diet have a low fat and sodium content and contain large amounts of protein and vegetables. Lastly, in a study by Mintel, 36% of students responded that they want to see more comfort food offered in their dining experiences (“Fine Dining” 2010). Meals by Mom would take all of this into account when developing meal plans. Since students are very interested in ethnic cuisines, we would include a plethora of options in our meal plans. Perhaps we would even make this the basis of one of our meal plan options. For one week, each night would feature foods from a different country. Monday could be Italian ravioli, Tuesday could be Mediterranean salmon with kalamata olives and broccolini. Wednesday, spicy tuna rolls from Japan, Thursday, Argentinian empanadas with frijoles. They experience ads everywhere they go, from television and social media to flyers plastered all over campus. Due to this constant ad saturation, many students are resistant to marketing efforts. They feel like they are being manipulated to spend what little money they have. College students have been known to resist traditional advertising and it has been shown that flyers around campus just blend into the background. To counteract this, firms can utilize the indirect approach to marketing. Another way to effectively communicate to students is to show an understanding of their lifestyle and a desire to accommodate their needs. Successful advertisements feature a typical student scenario and include the element of humor (“Marketing to College Students” 2011). If firms want to reach students on television, MTVU is a very popular 24-hour channel dedicated to reaching college students. According to their website, MTVU reaches over 9 million students. This network’s ability to reach college students makes it a great platform to communicate new products and services to this target audience of young adults. An additional way to reach students is through music applications like Pandora or Spotify. These applications are frequently used by college students, so featured ads will likely reach the target audience. Finally, many companies rely on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to
