In her teenage years at George Washington High School, Sonia describes herself as a shy, unobtrusive girl who always keep her head down. With many climactic experiences, the short story “Norma” by Sonia Sanchez describes the author’s own teenage life as a student who works and studies hard. The story starts off with Sonia, straining in factoring an equation in math class. She was gaining the courage to ask Mr. Castor, who gave no helpful response.
The Hate U Give The Hate U Give is a book about a girl, Starr Carter, who witnesses her childhood friend, Khalil, being shot and killed by the police. They were fleeing a party that ended when everyone heard gunshots and got pulled over for driving with a broken taillight. The officer demanded Khalil to get out of the car to get patted down. He asks Starr if she is ok, before getting shot.
In the essay “Beyond Bullying” by Krissy Darch and Fazeela Jiwa the readers got a chance to further their understanding of the injustice many victims bullying receive in Canada. The essay starts off with focusing mainly on two victims of bullying; Amanda Todd and Rehtaeh Parsons. These two victims cases were posted on social media under the title of cyberbullying but little did everyone knows that both girls were faced with sexual harassment by younger men. The felonies that Rehtaeh and Amanda both went through was the outcome of a sexist system that states a women body does not belong to her solely. The term bullying is understood differently, across the globe.
You can see she was a tough one to crack. At first, she didn’t care for anything the Mrs. Moore was trying to teach them. Had this story been added to the course, it would had offer the opportunity for each student to express their own ideas and meanings of the story. It would had given everyone the chance to interpret the story, especially since we all come from different
In the short story, “The Lesson”, by Toni Cade Bambara, she shows that as opposed to Sugar, Sylvia resists Miss Moore’s lesson, but once she learns it her attitude about life has changed. While the kids are having a discussion with Miss Moore about their day and experience at the shop, Sugar explains Miss Moore’s lesson correctly, surprising and annoying Sylvia. Sylvia expresses, “Miss Moore is besides herself and I am disgusted with Sugars tracheary. So I stand on her foot one more time…”. Sylvia expresses that she is angry with Sugar by stepping on her foot.
I chose to look at the article “Moral Panic and the Nasty Girl”, it was published in 2005 by Christie Barron and Dany Lacombe. The article looks at the perceived increase in youth girl violence from the mid-nineties and onward and argues that this is only a perceived and not a real issue. The authors cite statistics that show that violent crime rates had been declining in the second half of the 90’s. Yet public concern reflected that girl violence had been on the rise, something that leads to the introduction of various policies throughout Canada. Which the authors argue were potentially harmful due to the disproportionate increase in focus on female incarceration relative to males.
The article “School of Hate” was written by Sabrina Rubin Erdely, who is an American Magazine writer who lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has written many articles for the likes of Rolling stone, Gentleman’s Quarterly, and The New Yorker. In the article Erdely discusses the bullying and homophobia that happened in the Anoka-Hennepin school district during the mid-2000s. Her article gives both points of view from the kids being bullied, as well as from the religious conservatives who thought that nothing was wrong with the homophobic slurs that were being said to children and teenagers. One may disagree with the perspective of the religious conservatives.
The story “Priscilla and wimps” is about a gang at a school that likes to bully kids that are weaker than them. None of the kids do anything about it until something happens to Melvin. Priscilla decides to stand up for Melvin by karate chopping the bullys arm when they grab Melvin. Priscilla could have gotten hurt by one of the kobras but she didn't and ended up helping her friend.

We have to have courage when things get hard, even if no good comes from it. During reading the novel, “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”, Mildred D. Taylor explains how a nine year old girl shows courage throughout the book. Mildred shows Cassie’s courage by writing about how Cassie stood up for her little brother, how she stood up for her rights at Strawberry, and how Cassie was always there for T.J., even though T.J. was a bad person. These points show how Cassie proved her courageousness to her family, friends, and the readers. “Whip!”
In the story, “Seventh Grade, “ Victor, the main character, learns that with hard work and dedication you will reach your goal, through his embarrassing moments on his first day of seventh grade. In paragraph 24, Victor is asked a question and he answers Teresa, then all of the girls in his class giggled because they figured that Victor has a crush on Teresa. An example of this is, at one point in the text Victor had met up with an old friend he was doing a weird scowl thing he had seen models do, so later on Victor had tried it and a girl looked at him and actually noticed him so he said to himself in his head maybe it does work maybe it really does. Stop the Bullying People is not always willing to stand up for what they believe is right. One of the reasons why people is not willing to stand up is because they fear getting involved in legal problems. Others do not want to lose time discussing over this situations. Many of them do not know that there are consequences for what they chose to ignore. What I think about this is different.
