Means Girls is a teen comedy film directed by Mark Waters. This movie demonstrates collective behavior in many ways. Collective behavior is a type of social behavior that occurs in crowds or masses. Throughout the whole film, many different social behaviors occur. Cady is the new girl in town, who has just came back from Africa. She has been home schooled in the past. Cady enters into a new school where she encounters the very known “plastics”. These plastics can be referred to as Cady’s outgroup/reference group. The plastics copy each other in everything they do, this can be seen a fashion. A fashion is a valued style of behavior or appearance. Fashion is made obvious between the plastics when it is said that “On Wednesday’s we wear pink” or a ponytail only once a week. …show more content…

A social group consists of more than two people where there is frequent interaction, and there is a sense of belonging. Later on her social group changes when she abandons Janis and Damien and begins focusing on her image.
Janis is so against the plastics especially Regina George. For example, in a scene Janis cuts holes into the shirt of Regina, hoping that will cause her misery. Unfortunately it didn’t, Regina George followed on with her shirt not caring that two holes were cut into it. After she walks out of the locker room many people copy her.
