To property demonstrate the lives of Americans today, let’s begin with a symbol that represents the principles that lie in the heart of Americans. This started in 1861, when President Abraham Lincoln signed into a law awarding those who displayed acts of heroism and bravery in the line of duty, by giving them the Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is an object that links us together outwardly, showing the desire in each American to be Free. The Medal of Honor, represents the determination and perseverance of the people of America to achieve the high price of freedom. The Medal of Honor, is a representation of the brave young men and women who wouldn’t put up with tyranny or oppression form tyrants such as Adolf Hitler, or Saddam Hussein. …show more content…

The Medal of Honor shows the Americans willingness put aside their differences, and come together to pay for the high price of freedom. For example, in 1765 to 1783 the American colonies had growing tensions with the British motherland, for reasons such as taxation without representation. This lead to the American colonies coming together as a nation and declaring their freedom from Britain, which then eventually lead to war between the two countries. Although their goal of freedom was achieved a number of 4,435 Americans died for the ideal of being free. This sacrifice demonstrated their willingness to pay for the ultimate cost for freedom. Pursing this point further, in 1861 America was a free country but not all of the people in the country were free. Americans at this time was one the largest slave holding countries in the world, even though it’s nation was formed on principles like all men are created equal. American President Abraham Lincoln then decided to abolish slavery , an act that resulted in the splitting of the nation , one side for slavery the South , and another against slavery the North. Again this is another moment in history were Americans demonstrated their willingness to pay for the cost of freedom, but not just for them but for other men as well. A total number of 140,414 Americans sacrificed their lives for the freedom of other men and women , again demonstrating their will to pay for the ultimate cost of freedom. Another example, of how the Americans united and came together to achieve freedom is during World War II. While the soldiers, went and fought on the front line for the people who were left behind united and aided the military in the war against the Nazis. The people who left behind began to ration their foods so that the soldiers could have enough food to eat. They also worked in factories creating weapons, so that the soldier
