The Diagnosis

Medea is a prominent woman in Greek mythology and interpretations of her story transcend art forms. The original rendition of Medea comes from Euripides as a play. Ovid, a Roman writer, took a stab at the story himself with a poem. Lars von Trier, a Swedish film maker, created a modern day masterpiece with his film Medea. However, Medea’s motives are represented differently in each piece. In the stories presented by, Euripides and Deborah Warner, a modern director of Medea, the leading lady is madly in love, and this love inspires her actions. In the Poem written by Ovid, Medea feels deserving of Jason's love because of ll the help she gave him. On the other hand, Lars von Trier depicted Mede as descending into madness …show more content…

Medea was not portrayed as a lovestruck but rather frustrated. She felt as if Jason owed her his love. All that said Medea felt deserving of Jason because of all that she did to help him in his journey. This sense of entitlement Medea has is less about love and more about fairness. She believed that Jason should be faithful to her and his love because, she was faithful and her support of him during his journey. This idea that media felt so deserving of love that she killed her children in with all the calls are dreadful vengeance, would suggest the diagnosis of psychosis upon Medea. However, Medea killed in the past and had the moral compass to know this is wrong and so after killing Pelias she fled well aware that "...this she would have paid for, had not her dragon been their to take her swift through the high air," if Medea was truly a psychopath her self importance would lead to her book leaf she was immune to punishment and fling was unnecessary. Furthermore if she is not logically psychopath and she must have killed her children on the principle of self-importance along this is highly unrealistic because people with high self-importance will still be aware of the consequences of hurting murdering and therefore would not commit the crime in order to keep themselves from experiencing
