Gender bias in sports media coverage is an issue that has affected the WNBA since its inception. Sports media always has traditionally focused more on male sports, this is partly because men’s sports generate more revenue and have a larger fan base to profit off. The under-coverage of women's sports is a compounding issue because this bias within the media has led to a lack of visibility and media coverage of women's sports, including the WNBA. To formally deal with the inequity in media coverage pertaining to the NBA vs the WNBA, several steps can be taken. One necessary step is to increase investments in the WNBA through higher-quality marketing and advertising campaigns, this will engage more fans and create more interest in women's basketball and the WNBA. Another needed step is to deal with the misogynistic gender bias in sports media coverage by intentionally dedicating more showtime to women's sports news and highlighting the achievements and talent of all female athletes.
