The news media has evolved throughout the years as my knowledge has. I began to learn more as I read, watched, and heard. As a result, I was able to notice some of the positive things happening in the news media but mostly saw the negative. It is all overall affecting its viewers and itself today. I personally do not know much about politics but I know for a fact that the media does not cover the independent candidates as much as they do so for the republican and democratic candidates. I ask myself, “why?” I watched the news the entire summer and not once did I hear any mention of the third party presidential candidates. I tried figuring out why this occurred. For example, the John F. Kennedy assassination as a previously mention. People till today are uncertain of who killed him. The media is saying that Lee Harvey Oswald killed him yet there are conspiracy theories claiming that Lyndon Johnson killed him. As a result, there are some who believe the media is lying and keeping the truth away from them. Another very well-known example can be aliens. I truly believe the media does not have full control in this aspect. The government is trying to hide this extraterrestrial life away from people to control their behavior. People will automatically freak out if extraterrestrial life is confirmed so the government does not allow too much information to be reveal. I have professors who no longer watch the news because they believe we are no longer being informed but we are being entertained. At first, I had no idea the media was reporting this way until I began to play closer attention when watching the news. I noticed how the majority of the stories did not contain much information. Reporters were not gathering enough facts. Instead, I saw how the majority of the time reporters would tell their viewers their own opinion. When this takes place, viewers are kind of forced to believe it. On news source that has really caught my attention is Univision, the main news source for the Spanish speakers in America. They somehow mainly take coverage of stories located in Mexico and it bothers me. Like there other Latin-American countries besides Mexico. They leave out information that needs to be acknowledge. What if there’s some America who wants to be updated about the news in Venezuela? How can they be fully informed if this news source is mainly focusing on
