Everybody cares about social media today. To say that social media is significant today is even an understatement. Communication between people has become so easy nowadays thanks to the use of Social Media. People are able to communicate with one another even if they are in different countries from each other. With the use of internet social media allows its users to transfer information and computer files to their friends and family (Veerasamy, 2013). In contrast, social media has its negative issues as well. They have dangers in terms of lack of privacy as well as verbal abuse which can occur between people. First, using social networks such as face book has been linked to feeling sad, depressed, jealous and dissatisfied, low self-esteem. Researchers believe that this is due to the fact that people compare themselves and their lives with others through such social networks and tend to feel that they are less fortunate than others. Another research states that people after using face book have a worse mood than they did before using it and get into depression because they believe that they have less and look worse than other people in the same social network. Some get the feeling of loneliness and ignorance. It is in human nature that they compare themselves to others and so it is difficult for people to ignore seeing other people’s pleasure and success (Fox, 2013). A group of pediatrics has listed that dangers of social networking for children and teenagers need to be known to all parents out there. This is because unsupervised use of social networking has been linked to their depression and even suicide. Face book has been linked to pedophile crimes that occur by people who target young children and teenagers and stock them. They have also been exposed to and even “sexting” with them, which means that the stocker would act as a teenager and talk about private matters to arose the teenager or child. A research was done by Jackson, Eye & Biocca (2003) shows that “teenagers are more affected by social networking in terms of social life”. In fact most teenagers in high school have a hobbit of using social networking negatively like exposing others secrets. Moreover some parents do not give much care for their children when they reach the age of 18. In the age of 18 the individual start to interact with society in more influential way which makes him/her gain more understanding that can be both positive and negative. In modern time the social networking had a fierce effect on the Middle East countries like the Arab spring. The Arab spring started in Tunisia but soon after it went through the neighbors Arab countries such as Egypt, Syria, Libya and many others countries. In Egypt the revolution started throughout Face book which politically made a big change in the Egyptian government. This phenomenon is rarely occurring and due to this action many countries in the Middle East such as the UAE applied a system which keeps Face book less than 24 hours surveillance. This course of action would ultimately cause a disturbance in the user’s privacy in social networking sites. This was resulted in some countries in Africa which made some social networking site to be restricted in certain countries.
