“Did my phone just buzz?” This is what 89% of social media users experience when they have an urge to go on social media to check their notifications, this believe it or not it is called Phantom Vibration Syndrome (yes it is a real thing). I believe social media has had a negative impact upon our society and the world due to its many negative side-effects. Social media is used by ⅓ of the population world wide, it has the power to do good and bad things it is a tool that requires pure intentions and a pure perception upon the usage of this tool. While on social media there is an 80% chance that you were talking about yourself and probably also about your deepest darkest secrets due to the chemical release of dopamine. Dopamine is released when your body thinks that it is psychologically being rewarded. When this occurs you are more likely to use social media and the average amount of time you spend on their everyday is about 2 hours. These two hours that you spent on social media your body releases huge amounts of dopamine to cause you to be addicted to social media. Addiction to social media is one of my other minor details I wanted to mention. You’ve heard about the addiction to drugs, alcohol, sugar, etc., but probably not the addiction to social media. Studies have shown that social media has the same effects on your brain that drugs have on brains which causes the dormant humane characteristics to want more to spark. Have you ever gotten that feeling that your hungry while your using a social media website then just ignored it due to the fact that you want to continue looking through the website. This can cause health problems later in life due to the consequences of ignoring human chemical responses in your body. Studies show that this causes procrastination to begin to be a regular thing with that person due to the dopamine that is released causing you to want to be rewarded further. It also causes the mental disorder called FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) which causes humans to feel as if they were missing out on something important like a baptism.
