Medieval love stories; the knight in “shining” armor going on a quest to save a beautiful princess. This love story has taken a slight change of events, a deal is made that could change this knight's life forever. Well of course it has to have the knight going on a quest and some how along the way a woman catches his attention. Will this beautiful woman cause him to fall in love or leave him vulnerable to be tricked? King Arthur is having a New Year's Eve feast, during this a strange man only know as the Green Knight appeared. The knight challenges the King to a deal; he is allowing the king to “strike him with his own axe, on the condition that the challenger find him in exactly one year to receive a blow in return.” The king is in silence …show more content…

During a knight’s quest they usually encounter obstacles, such as monsters. Just like Gawain encountered all different kinds of monsters, he also suffered from hunger and cold. It is Christmas day and Gawain is praying and begging to find a sanctuary for him to stay. Out of nowhere a castle appears right in front of his own eyes. Gawain was welcomed by the Lord of the castle if he accepts the lord’s deal. The deal was for Gawain to, “go out hunting with his men every day, and when he returns in the evening, he will exchange his winnings for anything Gawain has managed to acquire by staying behind at the castle.” Of course there has to be a women involved with Gawain since it's a Medieval love story. Unfortunately it happens to be the lord’s wife; the first morning of Gawain's hunt, he is awaken by her trying to seduce him. This time however, she is able to steal two kisses from Gawain; in exchange for this Gawain gives the lord a boar’s head the next morning. It does not stop there though, as the third day comes upon Gawain, the lady receives three kisses from him. She is playing with Gawain and trying to trick him; just like some sly woman do in medieval stories. For this gawain has to bring the lord a fox. However on this occasion the woman wanted something more from Gawain but he refuses until she offers up her girdle. Sure enough, she did and it is now in Gawain’s possession. The lord decides to let Gawain keep the fox skin, for this the lord was expecting something in return; such as the woman’s girdle. However he never mentions anything about receiving it from the woman. Then the day comes where Gawain has to leave the castle and continue his quest, the lord summons a guide to help gawain get on his way. The guide offers to not tell anyone if he quits his quest but he would not do it. Just like a “true” knight would do in the stories. As he is wandering by himself, he starts to hear “the whirring of a grindstone, confirming his suspicion that this strange cavern is in fact the Green Chapel”. As Gawain is calling out for the Green knight, he finally emerges from the shadows and confronts Gawain. As the knight swings his axe backwards he has feign two blows; then on the third one the knight draws
